The following is computer maintenance that should be done weekly if your computer is used daily.

A. DISABLE ALL SCREEN SAVERS.

 

1. Right click on the desktop

 

2. Highlight properties--left click

 

3. Click on screen saver tab

 

4. Change screen saver to none

 

5. Click on apply

 

6. Click on okay


B. SCANDISK (ERROR-CHECKING STATUS)

 

1. Double click on my computer

 

2. Right click on C: drive (or letter of hard drive)

 

3. Highlight properties--left click

 

4. Click on tools tab

 ( with Windows 2000 and XP put checks in both boxes and this will run when you restart), go to C

a. Put a check mark in the box before automatically fix errors

b. Put a dot in the circle before standard (not thorough)


5. Click on check now button


6. Click start button


7. When finished/complete, close


C
. DEFRAGMENT

1. Click on the defragment now button (continue EVEN IF it says you don’t need to)

 

2. When finished/complete, close windows and restart your computer.

NOTE: If your computer has trouble completing any of the above steps, have a technician look at it ASAP.

download and run search and destroy (spybot) and Ad-Aware
